Samsung Electronics announced the launch of “SmartThings Pro” system and next-generation display technologies in its award-winning digital signage lineup at the InfoComm exhibition, the largest professional audiovisual trade show in North America, held from June 12 to 14 in Las Vegas.
Samsung has introduced a variety of innovative digital solutions to meet diverse business needs. These include the “SmartThings Pro” smart system, a new version of the “SmartThings” platform tailored for commercial use with advanced capabilities. Additionally, Samsung presented “Color E-Paper,” a thin, low-power digital display panel. The event also highlighted new and exclusive AI-powered features for the interactive information panel (WAD series), and the new “Samsung Business TV BED” series, UHD TVs with flexible functions designed for corporate needs across various sectors. Samsung offered demonstrations and educational sessions to showcase the capabilities of these advanced digital solutions.
Hon Chung, , Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics ‘ Visual Display Business Unit, stated: “We are pleased to showcase a diverse range of new solutions, services, and products at this year’s InfoComm exhibition. Building on our longstanding leadership in signage sales for 15 consecutive years, we have presented our latest solutions that cater to diverse business needs during the show.
“SmartThings Pro” extends Samsung’s smart home experience into the business realm, enhancing sustainability, automating operations, and improving overall business experiences. To better support B2B customers, we have introduced customizable Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for seamless integration with existing systems. Additionally, our innovative “AI Energy” technology intelligently controls energy consumption based on ambient brightness, content analysis, and motion detection, available across all Samsung connected products.”
Furthermore, “SmartThings Pro” also provides advanced solutions to enhance corporate and institutional operations using Internet of Things devices. The system supports various applications such as smart displays, hospitality systems, HVAC systems, and other digital devices. Users can manage different environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and lighting more effectively by integrating diverse IoT products. Advanced features include integrating sensors like cameras to enhance monitoring and control capabilities.
Several Samsung partners are already planning to utilize available Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), including:
– Cisco, which demonstrated API integration with Cisco video devices at InfoComm, illustrating integration with Webex Control Hub for widespread deployment operations.
– Aqara, enhancing smart hotel experiences through collaborative experiments.
– Quividi, building a retail analytics solution through its online data center, VidiCenter, leveraging its new partnership with Samsung.
Chanoow Park, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics, said: “We aim to enhance our Internet of Things solutions for the commercial market through SmartThings Pro. Our tailored solutions are designed to improve the performance of displays available in residential buildings, commercial spaces, and public facilities such as schools, stores, hotels, and offices, ultimately leading to cost reductions.”
Samsung also unveiled an extremely low-power display panel, the “Samsung Color E-Paper” (EMDX model), for the first time at the exhibition. This new panel can replace traditional advertising media by seamlessly integrating digital ink technology with innovative electronic paper technology, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional advertising methods while ensuring high performance that meets corporate needs.
The Samsung Color E-Paper operates at 0.00 watts when displaying static images, consuming much less power than traditional digital signs when changing images. Managers can remotely control the panel, set schedules to save energy, and utilize automatic on/off functions.
The 32-inch panel is equipped with QHD resolution (2560 × 1440), supports a color gamut of 60,000 colors, weighs 2.9 kg, and measures 17.9 mm in width. This makes it suitable for mounting on walls, tables, or ceilings without additional fixtures, providing flexibility for businesses to use it in various locations to effectively attract attention while reducing operating costs.
Additionally, the panel includes a mobile application that allows users to easily create or modify content. It supports Samsung VXT solution, enabling real-time monitoring and remote integrated management of multiple screens simultaneously.
The VXT CMS Canvas offers a variety of templates tailored for electronic paper displays, facilitating content production across different sectors.
The “Color E-Paper” panel features two USB-C ports, supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, has an 8 GB flash memory, and a swappable frame allowing users to change frame colors. It also complies with the VESA standard for wall mounting.
The panel utilizes the innovative E Ink Spectra 6™ technology, designed for in-store advertising and indoor signage, featuring an enhanced color spectrum and advanced color imaging algorithms to improve marketing and advertising performance.
Dr. FY Gan, President of E Ink Holdings, stated, “We are pleased to announce our partnership with Samsung to unveil the innovative 32-inch E Ink Spectra 6 device, which we proudly introduce to the global signage market. This collaboration highlights our commitment to a better future in our field. By integrating E Ink’s advanced color electronic paper technology with Samsung’s expertise in signage, we are ready to deliver low-power color displays that will revolutionize digital promotion and communication, significantly enhancing sustainability strategies.”
During the InfoComm exhibition, the interactive whiteboard (from the WAD series) was showcased, highlighting its new features including generative AI capabilities. It enables automatic transcription of spoken lessons, creates detailed lesson summaries, and emphasizes key points and topics. By analyzing the teacher’s spoken words, content displayed on screen, and educational materials using machine learning, content accuracy can be improved while inappropriate content can be blocked.
In collaboration with educational technology company “Merlyn Mind,” the screen will feature enhanced voice recognition technology tailored for educational environments. This simplifies control of the interactive display and assists in customizing its functions to align with school curricula.
Dr. Satya Nitta, the CEO of Merlyn Mind, stated, “We are delighted to collaborate with Samsung Electronics, a global leader in educational technology and innovation, known for integrating advanced technology with classroom education, starting with Samsung’s Chromebook devices launched over a decade ago. Together, we will continue integrating AI technologies customized for education with Samsung’s solutions to create better and more effective educational environments for students worldwide.”
These intelligent solutions will be available for all three different-sized models later this year, offering increased usability and contributing to the development of a more immersive educational environment.
During the exhibition, Samsung also showcased the “Samsung Business TV BED series,” which offers UHD picture quality in various sizes: 43, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, and 85 inches, making it an ideal choice catering to diverse sectors such as restaurants, education, small or home offices, and more.
