AlShrouq Express Accelerates Investment in Autonomous and Drone Delivery Technologies
AlShrouq Express is expanding its investment in technology and artificial intelligence as it advances the next generation of autonomous vehicle and drone delivery solutions.
Building on its logistics operations, technology infrastructure, and previous experience with autonomous delivery, the company is preparing for a future where traditional couriers, autonomous vehicles, and drones can operate together through one integrated delivery ecosystem.
AlShrouq Express has already gained practical experience in autonomous vehicle (AV) delivery through an earlier pilot conducted with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and NDU within Saudi Arabia’s technology ecosystem. During the pilot, each autonomous vehicle completed more than 60 deliveries per day, giving the company valuable operational insight into autonomous last-mile delivery in real-world environments.
Building on that experience, AlShrouq Express is now advancing its autonomous delivery technology using developments in artificial intelligence, automation, navigation, and smart fleet management.
The objective is to make autonomous delivery vehicles more accurate, reliable, and efficient, while strengthening their ability to operate within real delivery environments and alongside existing logistics operations.
At the same time, AlShrouq Express is in the final development stages of a new drone delivery solution, bringing together multiple technologies and systems to make aerial delivery practical, cost-efficient, and scalable.
The company plans to begin trials of both its new autonomous delivery technology and drone delivery solution within the coming months.
Built Around a Real Logistics Ecosystem
A key advantage for AlShrouq Express is that these technologies are being developed for direct integration into the company’s existing logistics ecosystem.
At the centre of this ecosystem is AlShrouq Delivery, the company’s proprietary delivery management system. The platform supports AlShrouq Express operations across Saudi Arabia and Qatar, serving a network of more than 4,000 clients and supporting over 50,000 deliveries every day.
The new autonomous vehicle and drone technologies are being designed to connect directly with AlShrouq Delivery, creating an integrated infrastructure capable of coordinating multiple delivery methods through a single technology platform.
This means AlShrouq Express is not developing autonomous technology in isolation. It is building it around an established, high-volume logistics operation where new solutions can be tested, refined, and ultimately scaled.
Preparing Today for the Future of Delivery
As regulatory frameworks for autonomous and drone delivery continue to develop, AlShrouq Express aims to ensure its technology, operational expertise, and infrastructure are ready for broader commercial deployment, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
The investment represents an important step in the company’s strategy to build proprietary technology and intellectual property alongside its growing logistics operations.
By bringing together real-world delivery operations, proprietary software, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and drone technology, AlShrouq Express is building toward a more connected and intelligent model for last-mile delivery.
The ambition begins in Saudi Arabia, with the potential to expand across the Middle East and international markets as the technology and regulatory landscape evolves.
